Sommelier Sara Kavanaugh

Our Director of Operations and Sommelier Sara Kavanaugh will be hosting 2 wine classes this fall at Fisher's Upstairs. One will be October 17th and the other November 7th. We will taste 6 different wines at each tasting and have some delicious small bites from Executive Chef Bill Briand.

About Sara

Sara is a deeply experienced restaurant professional. Upon her arrival to Fisher's in August 2016, she was nominated in the Top 20 by James Beard in 2013 & 2014 in the Best Wine Program in the United States category, and mentioned as one of the Top 100 Wine Programs in the country by Wine Enthusiast Magazine

Introduction to Wine

Wine is a melody the pallet can hear, a never-ending song which plays differently for everyone- Sara Kavanaugh, Sommelier, would like you to discover how truly wonderful wine can be, on every level? With her introductory class you will learn how wine is grown, produced and how to relax and enjoy each experience. She welcomes involvement from guests to create a truly light hearted, fun interactive class. Unwind as Sara guides you through proper technique and how to savor each varietal, ranging from Pinot Noir to Cabernet Sauvignon. This experience is to be shared among all those with an interest in wine. When you depart the knowledge gained of single vineyard vs. Grand Cru’s will be something up for discussion amongst your friends and family. Sara has selected 6 (six) different wines for this class. Also, Executive Chef Bill Briand will have small bites that will accompany the wine chosen, creating perfect parings!

Old World Wine vs New World Wine Class Roots

Run deep, no matter the vine, differences are experienced only through taste and time- Sara Kavanaugh, Sommelier, wants you to dig a bit deeper with her comparison class. Selected for their rich luster, notes which play delicately on the pallet, each world discovered will bring forth its best. Even wines from the same grape can open your senses to places you’ve never been. Regions old and new, will have held their own place among your table and certainly give way to beautiful conversation. Please join us for an evening that will allow you to travel the world, while never leaving your seat. Sara will teach you how 6 (six) wines of the same varietals can be distinguished just through smell, sight and taste. Small bites will be hand selected by Executive Chef Bill Briand to accentuate the palette and create vibrancy among the world from which you have just traveled.
